The Cryolapse Adventures take place several hundred years from now, when humans have all but abandoned Earth, and taken foothold in the stars. Life isn't easy for most, least of all for our adventurers, who start their voyage in body bags on a frozen wasteland.
Their exploits soon find them embroiled in interplanetary intrigue, straddling unusual alliances involving underworld figures, revolutionaries, rogue AIs, colonialist corporations, and religious cults. Oh, and a mecha-squid. Sort of.
This campaign shares themes found in Firefly and Battlestar Galactica. Humanity, though now spread out to the stars, brings its usual baggage along. No laser guns, magic, or light sabers; in this world, bullets and knives are plenty lethal. Ships use "jump juice" to get through hyperspace, but otherwise technology is not too different from what you find in the world today.
These games were played between ~2013 and 2015 by a dedicated group in Fort Collins, CO. The campaign was divided into "Seasons" to help provide some plot arcs and resolution. This is one of my favorite campaigns, with pretty strong mission themes, vibrant player and non-player characters, and a wide variety of sci-fi environments. Reading through the writeups, especially through Season Two, I am reminded of what in-person role-playing gaming can be at its best.
